The Cypriot city, built over time in fragments, is enriched with numerous abandoned, half-constructed buildings, standing today as sculptures, evoking mixed feelings to the resident of the city: concern, anticipation for the future, expectation for something better, negative comments and intrigue. These buildings are treated as a source of infection, a grey area giving birth to urban myths. The constructions that were once destined to host the safety and warmth of family, or the grandiose dream of social “upgrading”, are now left at the margin of urban space. The initial purpose of construction failed to be fulfilled; it became a core – a center of events and activities, an appropriated extension of public space.
